Mitrovica Volunteer Festival: A Week of Solidarity and Impactful Work

Over the past few days, the Mitrovica Volunteer Festival, supported by the NGO Aktiv, took center stage, offering a platform for meaningful contributions and community support. The festival spanned five days, dedicated to promoting voluntary work and fostering solidarity among participants. The initial two days unfolded within the welcoming environment of the Association of the Deaf in southern Mitrovica. Volunteers passionately engaged in a variety of activities, ranging from repairing roofs, painting walls, and chopping wood to crafting shelves for glasses. A notable aspect of these efforts was the commitment to learning sign language, enhancing communication with the center’s users. On the third day, the volunteer corps relocated to the premises of Së Bashku. Collaborating with individuals from the center for people with developmental and mobility challenges, they participated in a cooking class, creating unforgettable moments of socializing and enjoyment. The fourth day spotlighted humanitarian efforts as volunteers diligently assembled packages of aid. Approximately 30 families, facing financial hardships on both sides of the Ibar, received this support, underscoring the festival’s commitment to making a positive impact on the community. The fifth day featured a thought-provoking debate on the theme “How to be a good volunteer and take care of yourself”. Participants generously shared their valuable experiences, and the one-hour discussion served as a font of practical insights for all attendees. The culmination of the event was a vibrant concert by DJ Butrint and Band Zvad, marking the conclusion of an unforgettable week dedicated to volunteerism and community spirit.
