The Agency for Prevention of Corruption and the NGO Aktiv signed Cooperation Agreement

As part of the cooperation of the Agency for Prevention of Corruption (APC) with non-governmental organizations, on 22nd December, in Pristina, an Agreement on Cooperation was signed between this Agency and the NGO Aktiv.

In the presence of the director of INL, the Embassy of the United States in Pristina, Tamra Greig, the agreement was signed by the director of Agency Yll Buleshkaj and the executive director of NGO Aktiv Miodrag Milićević.

Following the adoption of the new legislation which strengthened the Agency’s mandate by vesting additional powers and duties to the Agency by legislation, including the direct sanctioning of officials and conducting corruption assessment, the Agency has taken steps to promote its mandate and the importance of corruption reporting.

The Agreement signed aims at raising public awareness about corruption reporting and focuses on reporting corruption in electronic form through a special mobile application implemented within the International Bureau for Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) project “Enhancing Transparency and Rule of Law in Kosovo-Serb Majority Municipality”.

“The new legislation clarifies the preventive mandate of the Agency. Whereas the Agency continues to consider civil society as an important partner in the process of preventing corruption, especially in the areas where non-majority communities live”, said the Anti-Corruption Agency Director, Mr. Yll Buleshkaj.

“This cooperation and this mobile application will be used not only by the Kosovo Serb community but also by other communities. We believe that this electronic solution will successfully help the communication of citizens with the institutions responsible for preventing and fighting corruption,” said the Director of NGO AKTIV, Mr. Miodrag Milicevic

“INL supports Kosovo in its efforts to prevent and fight corruption. Trust in institutions can only increase with sincere cooperation between the institutions and citizens and the civil society, said the INL Director, Ms. Tamra Greig.

ACA and AKTIV acknowledged the ongoing US engagement in Kosovo in the area of the rule of law and the prevention of corruption.
