Description: The project aims to increase participation of formal citizens’ groups in local decision making and consultation process in eight (8) targeted municipalities with Kosovo Serb majority communities, North Mitrovica, Zvecan, Zubin Potok, Leposavic, Gracanica, Novo Brdo, Strpce and Partes.
Specific objective of the project is to increase capacity of formal community groups (with emphasis to women and youth groups) in selected municipalities to identify the needs and engage in active local advocacy initiatives for their attainment.
At the same time action envisages within this project assure direct assistance to relevant municipal authorities to increase accountability, inclusiveness and transparency of existing governing practices. The activities proposed in this project are designed to produce following results:
Outcome 1: Increased capacity and opportunities of civil groups for participation in decision-making processes at local level;
Outcome 2: Practices on inclusion of women in local decision making processes and local governance system determined and measures for remediation on inequalities identified;
Outcome 3: Establishment of objective and quantifiable mechanism for appraisal of performance of municipal authorities in addressing the need of the citizens;
AKTIV`s project team identified coordinators for each municipality who will be responsible to liaise between local community and their local representatives. At the three-day workshop in Ohrid coordinators will gain adequate knowledge about the following topics: rights and obligations of local self-government towards citizens, citizens` participation in decision making processes, role of media in achieving higher transparency of local-self-government.
Additionally, coordinators will organize meetings with residents/citizens from each targeted municipality. Each group of citizens/ residents will have a chance to meet with their local representatives at the accountability sofas that will be organized in each municipality. Moreover, the AKTIV`s project team will draft a report on transparency of each municipality which will be measured with the previously determined methodology. In addition to that, Aktiv`s project team will draft an Alert Report – Gender Balance in local managerial positions
