Prishtina/Priština, July 30, 2024 — An important event marked the launch of the dialogue between civil society representatives and religious leaders in Kosovo, aimed at improving inter-ethnic relations and cohabitation in Kosovo. Participants from the civic initiative “Multi-Ethnic Caravan for Peace and Cohabitation,” coordinated by KIPRED and NGO Aktiv, met with esteemed religious leaders in Prishtina, Mr. Vedat ef. Sahiti, Grand Imam of the Islamic Community of Kosovo, H.E. Dodë Gjergji, Bishop of the Catholic Bishopric Prishtina-Prizren, and Pastor Artur Krasniqi, Head of the Protestant Evangelical Church of Kosovo.
During these meetings, the “Letters of Desires and Expectations” of the participants of the Caravan were presented to the religious leaders. The letters, written by Leonora Kryeziu, Jovana Radosavljeviċ, Robert Muharremi, Dušan Radakoviċ, Ilir Deda, Senad Saboviċ, Ramadan Ilazi, Dimitrije Obrenoviċ, Mentor Agani, and Zoran Saviċ, articulated a shared vision for Kosovo as a home for all individuals, irrespective of ethnicity or religion. They also provided specific recommendations for religious leaders on how to foster better inter-ethnic relations and cohabitation through their sermons and various initiatives.
The religious leaders expressed their commitment to advancing interfaith dialogue, enhancing mutual understanding, and supporting efforts to improve inter-ethnic relations and cohabitation in Kosovo.
These meetings mark the beginning of the Caravan’s journey across various municipalities in Kosovo, where they will continue to meet with mayors and religious leaders of all faiths. This initiative is supported by the Kosovo Open Society Foundation.
