We are pleased to invite you to the conference launching the annual publication on the position, challenges, and perspectives of the Serbian community in Kosovo.
The survey “Trends Analysis 2024: Attitudes of the Serbian Community in Kosovo”, now in its ninth edition, monitors shifts in public opinion among Kosovo Serbs, with a primary focus on concerns, freedom of expression, trust in politicians, and other issues of key importance for the community.
The first survey was conducted in 2016 in four northern municipalities, and since 2019 it has been expanded to all municipalities and areas with a Serbian majority across Kosovo. This year’s Trends Analysis offers comprehensive data and analysis of perceptions among Kosovo Serbs, aiming to provide deeper insight into their needs and priorities, as well as to communicate some of their key concerns and grievances.
Key Findings
- The research conducted by NGO Aktiv highlights deep concern among the Serbian community in Kosovo about the political and security situation. According to respondents from northern Kosovo, the institutions with the lowest level of trust are the Government of Kosovo and the Kosovo Police, both rated with the lowest possible score: one.
- A full 90% of respondents believe that the situation in Kosovo is not moving in a good direction. Pessimism also dominates when it comes to the future: only one in ten respondents believes that life for Serbs in Kosovo will improve in the next three years. The biggest challenge identified is political instability, which 44% of respondents consider the main problem.
- Regarding the continuation of the Brussels dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, 41.7% of respondents expressed no opinion, while supporters and opponents are almost equally divided (29%). These results point to deep mistrust, confusion, and a sense of exclusion from a process that directly affects their daily lives.
