Discussion: More Effective Mechanisms Needed for the Protection of Non-Majority Communities

On May 30th in Pristina, the NGO Aktiv organized a roundtable focused on discussing the findings of a report on the state of human rights in Kosovo. The event brought together representatives of civil society and the media, with particular attention to the situation of non-majority communities.

Participants pointed out serious challenges in the areas of language, property, and minority rights, as well as a growing crisis of trust in institutions. They highlighted the crucial role that media can play in protecting human rights and emphasized the need for joint initiatives to improve the situation on the ground.

Throughout the discussion, it was stressed that many of the issues raised by civil society organizations over the years still lack adequate institutional response. Key questions were addressed: why solutions are lacking, how to improve the effectiveness of actions, where to direct pressure, and how to build a sustainable dialogue with decision-makers.

It was concluded that solidarity and coordinated action are essential preconditions for real change in the field of human rights. The need to continue such dialogues and strengthen joint efforts among all actors advocating for equality and respect for the rights of all Kosovo citizens was underlined.

Aktiv extends its gratitude to all participants for their open discussion and commitment to human rights, as well as to NED for its continued support.
