In North Mitrovica, in the premises of the Civic Energy Center – CEC, the “Cohesive Future” project was officially presented, which aims to strengthen cooperation between different communities through concrete activities and initiatives that contribute to social cohesion and stability in the region. Supported by the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund, the project focuses on bridging the divides and creating the space for constructive dialogue.
Representatives of the organizations “Syri i Visionit“, “Edutask” and “NGO Aktiv” presented their observations about key challenges of residents of North and South Mitrovica, emphasizing the need for greater interethnic cooperation, so that security, trust and a sustainable future for all communities would be improved. Special emphasis was placed on complex socio-political situations that directly affect the daily life of citizens and the need for urgent problem resolution.
Participants have highlighted key difficulties, such as limited access to public services, inequality of economic opportunities, security challenges, and lack of support by local authorities. Also, the significance of creating new opportunities for youth, bridging language barriers, and strengthening the capacity of local civil society organizations was emphasized.
Action plans and strategies will be developed through a series of planned meetings, with regular monitoring of progress, so that the recommendations from this meeting would be translated into concrete actions with long-term positive effects .
The “Cohesive Future” project, supported by the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund, represents a significant step towards building sustainable peace and social cohesion in North and South Mitrovica. Activities and initiatives within the project have a key role in strengthening the resilience of communities, with active involvement of all social actors in the process of building trust and mutual prosperity.
