As part of the debate platform “Mitrovica Social Club”, civil society organizations AKTIV and ACDC, supported by UNMIK and KFOR, organize a “Debate on defending human rights in challenging environment”.
A public debate with activists and citizens, as a joint mark of Human Rights Week, will be held on December 8, 2023, in the Civic Energy Center, in North Mitrovica, starting at 11:00 a.m.
The obstacles and challenges that the non-majority communities faced in safeguarding human rights in the north of Kosovo requires support and intervention by the HRD and institutions that will address systemic issues, discrimination, security and socio-economic disparities affecting effecting realization of human rights.
In that respect the importance of collaboration and cooperation between Ombudsman institutions and civil society organizations in advocating for human rights, addressing grievances, and promoting accountability is vital.
Role of Human Rights in Society, Challenges in Ensuring Human Rights, Collaboration Between Ombudsman and Civil Society, among others, shall serve as a starting point for discussions at that will foster understanding, collaboration, and action towards citizens in promoting and protecting human rights in the four municipalities in north of Kosovo.
The event is intended as an interactive debate between the local communities and Deputy Ombudsperson Mr. Srdjan Sentic and Mr. Budimir Nicic, Director of Media Centre Caglavica “Slobodno Srpski”, in addressing specific concerns, rise issues participation as well as on co-operation with Human Rights Defenders and Institutions.
