The main objective of this research is to map and determine the distribution of decision-making positions based on the principle of gender equality and the established (domestic and international) legal framework at the local level in Kosovo, with particular focus on local institutions in eight Serb majority municipalities. In addition to the main, specific objective of the research is to make recommendations to responsible institutions based on established facts, ie the distribution of decision making positions at the local level, and illuminating the perception of gender equality within institutions by women (in decision-making positions), all with the purpose of respecting the principle of gender equality.

Providing equal opportunities to all citizens, regardless of their gender and other personal traits, is a virtue of Finnish society that enabled Sanna Marin to lead the Finnish Cabinet as the world’s youngest sitting Prime Minister in a coalition with four other parties, all chaired by female leaders. These were the main reflections of the Ambassador of Finland to Kosovo Ms. Pia Stjernvall regarding the key takeaways from the new Finnish Cabinet which she shared during the event „Coffee with the Ambassador“ held at the Mitrovica Social Club on Monday, 16 December 2019.

Dealing with the past, the present and future relations between Albanians and Serbs in Kosovo was the subject of the 2-day conference held in Mitrovica north. Other topics such as reconciliation process and transitional justice were broadly discussed between representatives of civil society, opinion makers and students from both communities.

Center for Basic Rehabilitation is a place where the most sensitive members of society have been finding support and safety for eleven years. In the past, the main financial donor of the Center was the international organization ’’Save the Children’’. They were working in full capacity. Apart from managers, educators, physical therapists and drivers, the Center also employed speech therapists, psychologists, social workers… However, since the last year, there has not been any financial support. This new state of affairs has caused this Center to operate at a reduced capacity. There are only four employed persons left working in the Center – manager, educator, physical therapist and drivers, whose work is based solely on a voluntary basis.

NGO AKTIV is re-launching a call for proposals for small projects focused on written contributions to the production of the EU Report for Kosovo 2020. The call is open to Civil Society Organizations operating in non-majority communities in Kosovo with the purpose of facilitating structured participation of members of non-majority communities in the consultation process for contributions to the EU Progress Report.

Over the past four years there has been a clear rise in the level of mistrust and pessimism among the Kosovo Serb community, where 92.6% of respondents rate the overall situation as bad.  This and other results from the Trend Analysis 2019: Attitudes of the Serb Community in Kosovo were presented during a conference held today in Pristina.

As part of the project Active Citizens, implemented by the non-government organization Aktiv from North Mitrovica, with the support of the Olof Palme Center, an accountability sofa was held in Novi Brdo/Novobërdë on Thursday, 14th of November 2019. Accountability sofa is an Aktiv brand and concept whose essence is to bring together interested citizens and representatives of local self-government in one place, in an informal atmosphere, in order to hold a constructive debate on various topics of importance to the local population.
