Relations between Serbs and Albanians in Kosovo in the period of Austro-Hungarian occupation were often bad and strained, but bright moments of cooperation remained remembered in history. This could be a conclusion of a debate held in Mitrovica Social Club, organized by NGO Aktiv, North Mitrovica.

Debate panelists, Jovan Aleksic and Milos Damjanovic, PhD students of Faculty of Philosophy, Kosovska Mitrovica, agreed that history repeats itself, and that Albanian and Serbian people in Kosovo are in the similar positions and relationships today as well as during the First World War.
Arguments between them, that led to conflicts, were those which are the results of different perspectives that Serbs and Albanians held considering historical events important for these two nations. But there are also numerous moments when these two nations have helped each other and they will not be forgotten. The gap between the two communities still exists. The key to reduce and bridge these differences may be economic cooperation and trade, as was the case after the end of World War II, concluded panelists.
Mitrovica Social Club discussions are organised as part of the project Provide sustainable framework for civic participation and democratic decision-making on local and central institutional level in Kosovo.
