NGO Aktiv held a three-day seminar on the topic "Citizens' participation in decision-making at the local level - rights and obligations of citizens and local self-government" between March 22 and 24, 2019, at Metropol Hotel in Ohrid.

The seminar was divided into several thematic units: Rights and obligations of local self-governments towards citizens, Citizens' participation in decision-making at the local level, Obligations and rights of citizens in relation to local self-government, The role of media in increasing transparency and accountability of local self-government institutions and The role of media in raising awareness among citizens. The seminar was held in a constructive working atmosphere characterized by the active contribution of the participants.
The seminar was held within the project "Active Citizens" that NGO Aktiv has implemented with the support of the Olof Palme International Center. The project aims at increasing the participation of citizen groups in the local decision-making and consultation process in eight (8) targeted Serb-majority municipalities, North Mitrovica, Zvecan, Zubin Potok, Leposavic, Gracanica, Novo Brdo, Strpce and Partes. The main goal of the project is to identify the needs of the citizens as well as to increase their participation in active local advocacy initiatives for the attainment of such needs. Special attention will be paid to the participation of women, youth and other marginalized groups.
