MSC: Half a decade of debating



As part of the celebration of five years of existence, Mitrovica Social Club hosted panelists who summarized results that have been achieved during that period, while also covering goals for the following period: Vera Pula – representative of Kosovo Foundation for Open Society, Miodrag Milićević – Executive Director of NGO Aktiv and Dejan Radivojević – Executive Director of the Forum for Development and Multiethnic Cooperation.

‘Social clubs generally provide a unique opportunity for people to freely discuss on various topics, ranging from certain lighter cultural topics to difficult political issue. We think that this format of debating in such informal atmosphere is much more fruitful and effective than discussions form of roundtables usually organized during conferences. In an informal atmosphere the discussions are very enjoyable, while opinions and views are easy to share’ – said Vera Pula, Coordinator of the program Reconnecting Mitrovica.

On the occasion of celebrating five years of existence of Mitrovica Social Club, which was created by NGO Aktiv in 2014 for the needs of the Serb community in the north of Kosovo, panelists have pointed out that the social club has dealt with various topics, ranging from ones related to the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, specialist chambers, to the debate on the assassination of one of the most eminent politicians in northern Kosovo – Oliver Ivanović.

‘We have organized more than fifty events, with participation of more than one hundred and thirty various eminent and influential individuals – the ones who are specialists in their fields of interest, were guests of the Mitrovica Social Club. Therefore we will continue with our activities with the same spirit’ – said Miodrag Milićević, one of the founders of this concept.

Gračanica’s CEC provides a space for young people, which is a crucial thing. It is a modern type space which will allow for all implemented activities to reach all target groups. Civic Energy Center is a novelty in central Kosovo and we have recognized Mitrovica Social Club as a very good concept worth cherishing’ – said Dejan Radivojević, Executive Director of the Forum for Development and Multiethnic Cooperation.

NGO Aktiv will in the following period focus on slightly different activities, such as the ones which promote cultural diversity and various types of socio-political criticism of different phenomena in Kosovo.
