Movie night: Waltz with Bashir

The projection of the Israeli movie Waltz with Bashir, directed by Ari Folman, took place within the premises of Mitrovica Social Club on 10th of September, which was the second movie screened within a program which aim is to get local population familiar with artistic criticism of (ethnically) divided societies through cinematographic, audio-visual, form. Prior to projection of the movie itself, historian Miloš Damjanović gave an overview of the historic development of the Israeli-Arab conflict, with a particular focus on the current state of affairs in the Near East.

The existence of conflicts in particular societies with its own inherent different characteristics, isn't only a feature of Kosovo society. The screening of this movie (and other of this kind, followed in the upcoming period within Mitrovica Social Club), aims to open a space for criticism and depiction of divisions in (post) conflict societies around the world with artistic mean, which will consequently give local population a new insight on how a conflictual context can be objectively observed and depicted.

Mitrovica Social Club is a project supported by the Kosovo Foundation for Open Society (KFOS), and implemented by NGO Aktiv.
